Professor Guy Marks - Vietnam Lead at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research

Professor Guy Marks is an expert in lung health working in Respiratory Medicine, South Western Sydney Clinical School and University of New South Wales. Professor Marks is the Head of Respiratory and Environmental Epidemiology at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. He is also an Honorary Professor at University of Sydney. He is the Chair of the NSW TB Advisory Committee, and also Vice-President of the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease.

Associate Professor Greg Fox

Associate Professor Greg Fox - Vietnam Lead at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research

Associate Professor Greg Fox is a respiratory physician, an epidemiologist and a clinical trialist at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. He is also an Associate Professor in Respiratory Medicine at the University of Sydney. Associate Professor Fox is a member of the International Union of TB and Lung Disease, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the McGill International TB Center in Canada.


Dr Nguyen Thu Anh – Country Director

Dr Nguyen Thu Anh is a public health expert with more than 20 years’ experience in design and management of health studies. She has taught research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics and modeling at both Hanoi Medical University and Southern Cross University. Dr Thu Anh has also worked for a decade in senior management positions at international health organisations. She was awarded the ProSPER Net-Scopus Young Scientists Award in 2012 as the first runner up and Award 2010 Asia 21 Young Leaders' Medical Work in Vietnam. Dr Thu Anh received her doctoral degree in medical anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.


Ms Pham Ngoc Yen – Operation Manager

Ms Pham Ngoc Yen has a background in sociology and gained a Masters of Medical Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. She has more than 13 years’ experience conducting public health research, mostly based at international NGOs like Clinton Foundation, Pact, and Medical Committee Netherlands. Ms Pham Ngoc Yen specialises in health-seeking behavior, HIV/AIDS, childcare, education, communication and capacity building. She heads operations at Woolcock Vietnam.


Dr Nguyen Thi Bich Phuong – ACT 3 Study Manager

Dr Phuong has spent 12 years working in a biotechnology laboratory developing guidelines to study TB, mycobacterium tuberculosis biology and epidemiology, biosecurity and infection control, data analysis, and monitoring of research and evaluation. She also spent 15 months working in the Molecular Microbiology Department at the National Lung Hospital Vietnam. Dr Phuong has a doctoral degree from Arndt University, Greifswald and is the Vietnam-based study manager of ACT 3, a randomised trial of TB screening in the community. 


Dr Nguyen Thi Cam Binh – VQUIN Trial Manager

Dr Nguyen Thi Cam Binh completed her Doctor of Philosophy research project on ethics research in emerging infectious diseases at the University of Oxford in early 2015, sponsored by a Welcome Trust Fellowship and Fellowship Li Ka Shing DPhil. She specialises in the area of social science and law. Prior to joining Oxford, Dr Cam Binh worked for four years coordinating of clinical trials at Vietnam’s Hospital for Tropical Diseases. She also worked as a clinical project manager at Sanofi Aventis, Vietnam. Dr Cam Binh has rich experience in research ethics and clinical trial management, including planning, implementation, monitoring and management components of clinical studies. She works to ensure high quality research and patient safety while fostering communication and cooperation among research sites and donors worldwide. She is a member of the Network Coordination Center (NCC), South East Asia Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network (SEAICRN), Project Management Group Health Global Ethics Network, Ethox Center, and University of Oxford.



Dr Tran Ngoc Buu has more than 30 years experience working in a wide variety of TB-related roles in Vietnam’s health care system. He is highly trained, gaining a Masters in Public Health from Gothenburg, Sweden, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Amsterdam. Dr Tran Ngoc Buu has been Vice Director of Pham Ngoc Thach hospital, one of the leading hospitals to provide TB care and treatment in Vietnam.


Le THU HIEN - V-RESIST Study manager

Ms Le Thu Hien is a senior pharmacist with a Masters in International Public Health from Hanoi University. She has worked in regulatory affairs at a world-leading pharmaceutical company and spent 13 years working in HIV and TB surveillance and intervention programs at hospitals and in communities. Ms Le Thu Hien has made a significant contribution to the National TB Program in Vietnam through Public Private Mix, TB/HIV collaboration, and FAST strategy. She is one of the global pioneers in implementation of FAST strategy, a practice that aims to shorten time to TB diagnosis and treatment initiation in hospitals by fast-tracking patient classification, testing, diagnosis and treatment initiation. She has recently joined the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Vietnam as the V-RESIST Study Manager, aiming to improve appropriate antibiotic use and reduce antimicrobial resistance.

Luu Thi Van Anh


Ms Luu Thi Van Anh is a pharmacist with a Masters of Science in Pharmacy from Dongguk University-Korea. She has 7 years of experience working with clinical trials with the role of monitor and clinical project manager for IQVIA. Her experience ranges from start-up, implementation, monitoring, management, and inspection of clinical trials. She recently joined Woolcock Vietnam as the ACT5 Study Manager. Her aim is to reduce the prevalence of TB among adults in the general community.


Pham Duc Cuong, Data manager

Mr Pham Duc Cuong has 16 years’ experience in data management in a range of clinical trials and research programs. He has worked with a broad range of organisations, including ISDS, Population Council, Asian Management and Development Institute, and SCDI before joining the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in 2014. Mr Cuong is now Woolcock Vietnam’s Data Manager for key studies, including VQUIN, VCAPS, VRESIST, and VDOT 1 & 2.


Nguyen Thu Hien, Finance Manager

Ms Nguyen Thu Hien has a Bachelor Degree in Finance and Banking and more than 15 years’ experience in finance, accounting and human resources at multi-national companies. She has also worked extensively with international NGOs such as +W Vietnam, SCS, Vietnam ADS Support, and Parker Processing Vietnam. Ms Hien has in-depth knowledge of accounting and tax regulations, and is abreast of general accounting principles in Vietnam and worldwide.


Vu Thuy Hoa – Human Resources & Administration Manager

Ms Vu Thuy Hoa has more than 10 years’ experience working in various multinational finance companies, start-up businesses and non-profit organisations. She started her career at KPMG, one of the biggest auditing companies in the world, and has since developed into an administration and human resources specialist. Ms Vu Thuy Hoa works at Woolcock Vietnam overseeing general affairs and human resources and lending support for financial management.
